Canopus DVRaptor RT2, DVRaptor RT2 Max
The DVRaptor RT2 is Canopus's entry level product that has
their own proprietary DV CODEC. When using Adobe Premiere with
the DVRaptor RT2 Canopus promises you'll get
- 3 simultaneous realtime
video tracks
- 30 simultaneous realtime
title and graphic layers
- 24 realtime video filters
- 6 realtime audio filters
- Simultaneous unrestricted
combinations for all of
the above
- High-quality 2D/3D
transitions with Canopus 3DRT
& Xplode Basics
- Realtime DV and analog
output
- Full YUV editing and
processing
Note however that Adobe Premiere may not be included in the
package and may be sold as an optional extra. If you do need to
buy Premiere buy it with the card and it will likely be a lot
cheaper than the standard retail product. At the time of writing
this article you do however get EzEdit, EzAudio, EzVideo,
DVCapture Tools, Xplode Basics, 3DRT, Adobe® Premiere® Plugin
and Ulead® DVD Workshop SE.
You get 2 x DV connectors each of which of course handles
both input and output, and one analogue output via composite and
one via S-Video. You can add on other Canopus products (like
5.25" internal bays) to provide composite in. DVRaptor

Main Competition for the DVRaptor RT2:
Adobe Premiere is included as standard in both these
products.
Some Notes:
- New versions of Avid (3.5 onwards) don't work with the Raptor
RT2
- We've never been able to get the card working in a 64 bit
slot which is a pain as dual processor motherboards
normally have mainly PCI-X 64 bit 33 and 66 MHz slots
(tested on Supermicro X5DA8 motherboard) none of which the
Raptor will work on
- Canopus's own Edius (the full version) video editing software
doesn't work with the Raptor RT2. You need a DVStorm2 or above
- Unlike the cheaper ACEDVio the DVRaptor RT2 does not have
an analogue input either via composite or S-Video.
- The competition provides a full copy of Adobe Premiere
6.5/Pro for free with their products
- The Raptor RT2 Pro replaces the Raptor RT2 but all it
seems to offer as extra is Edius (cut down LE version) and
Procoder (cut down LE version). There is a copy of an Adobe
Premiere plug-in. Don't confuse that with Premiere itself.
Our recommendation: The Matrox RT.X10 suite is the better
product by far. And it comes with better software tools.
