DVCAM Tapes

While consumer DV tape is adequate for home use the stressful environmental conditions and frequent use cinematographers expose their equipment to demand DVCAM.

Sony DVCAM tapes come in the following sizes and recording times: 

Standard size (125 x 78 x 14.6 mm) = Approx 184 minutes
Mini size (66 x 48 x 12.2 mm)= Approx 40 minutes

DVCAM/DV tapes use an integrated ID board or cassette memory (MIC) for identification. This is used to convey identification and other information (like tape type, tape grade, tape thickness, and for MICs, shooting log) to a Video Tape Recorder. DVCAM camcorders can detect both the ID board and MIC.
